2. Tips and Hints for DV/HDV

  • If you find that many frames were dropped during capture, please check if system requirements are met. The hard drive may need to be defragmented as well.

  • Some DV/HDV camcorders have a power saving function that shuts down the power automatically when the camera is idle for a period of time. Please turn off this function when capturing from your DV/HDV camcorder to the computer.

8. Troubleshooting

  • If you experience difficulty getting started, refer to the online Help, User Manual, or Important Information for guidance.

  • If you cannot see your video in the Preview Window in the Capture Video dialog box, click Advanced Settings and adjust parameters to meet your capture device requirements.

  • To update disc information for your operation system, refresh disc from time to time by clicking Show Disc Details after burning, erasing, or formatting.

  • If you encounter problems in the Preview Window when using some TV tuner cards (especially for a DVD project), click select settings to the Use preview mode” in Capture Options.

  • If there is no response when dragging the Shuttle Slider, lower the display cards Hardware acceleration level (accessed from Windows Start: Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advanced - Troubleshoot).

  • If the task options are missing on the Start page when you directly opened a standalone program (instead of the Launcher), you may need to upgrade your Microsoft Internet Explorer to version 6.0 or above.

  • When doing on-disc editing on a DVD-VR, a slideshow created using Add Slideshow can be played, added to, or deleted from a playlist. The slideshow, however, cannot be trimmed.

  • If you want to share and play your videos on other machines, make sure you use a common codec such as Cinepak, Indeo, or MPEG. If you use a hardware codec such as MJPEG, you may not be able to view the videos unless the other machine has the same video card installed.

  • If you have problems running DVD MovieFactory, check if your display adapter driver is up-to-date.

  • Please open the DMA setting if you use Cable select for the disc burner.

  • When using a low-speed CPU, you may experience serious dropped frames during capture. This causes the captured video not to play smoothly.

  • If you want to play your MPEG-2 videos on other machines, make sure you have installed an MPEG-2 decoder on them such as Ulead DVD Player, Power DVD, WinDVD, or any other DVD player programs.

  • Some DVD MovieFactory versions do not come with the Dolby Digital decoder. In such cases, if you trim a video with a Dolby Digital audio track, the Dolby Digital audio track will be converted to MPEG or LPCM audio based your project settings. (The decoder provided by Ulead is Dolby Digital Pack, which is manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby" and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. Confidential unpublished works. Copyright 1992–1997 Dolby Laboratories. All rights reserved.)

  • When you use the TV tuner feature of your sound card, the TV tuner program may hang or stop responding. This problem may occur if your processor uses Hyper-Threading Technology. For more information, refer to the support information on the Microsoft Web site.

  • If you encounter the message "Drive Not Ready" after video/audio multiplexing during disc burning, try to create a DVD disc image first, then burn the disc image to your disc.

  • If you have other DVD data/authoring applications installed on your computer, you may have difficulty in completing disc burning tasks. If this happens, try closing or uninstalling these other DVD data/authoring applications.

  • If you experience problems in reading the source disc when using Copy Disc, update the disc drive firmware to the latest version or contact the disc drive vendor.

  • Formatting or erasing a disc takes longer to complete when you simultaneously attempt to read a file. It is recommended that you perform other tasks only after formatting or erasing has been completed.

  • The total file size of the menu and background music on a DVD disc cannot exceed 1 GB. This is a limit set by the DVD-Video specification.

  • You can increase the virtual memory on your computer if you need to improve performance in converting files.

  • At the time of publication, only the first session in a multi-session DVD with over 4GB data can be read when running on Windows 2000 (earlier than SP4) or XP. Install the latest patches from Microsoft to update your Windows system.

  • If you see the message Flash.ocx not installed well after installing DVD MovieFactory, log on to Windows again using a user account with Administrator access rights.

  • If disc burning is not stable when using an AMD64 computer, upgrade the IDE driver to the latest version.

  • When importing DVD-VR files using Import DVD Video in DVD DiscRecorder, image clips imported from the playlist are copied as image files to the working folder instead of being adding it to the Media Clip list. The default working folder is My Documents\Ulead DVD DiscRecorder\2.2\Capture.

  • When DVD MovieFactory is installed, QuickDrop automatically runs in the background and uses your computer's memory resources. If you open several applications at the same time and your system resources become low, you can close QuickDrop if it is not being used.
